What is UK Tropical Bass Culture?
20th century Britain saw waves of cultural influx from many richly significant musical heritages that have left an immeasurable lasting impact on the sound of this country. What Dub, Dancehall and their derivatives provoked on these shores is impossible to extrapolate. Having birthed so many vibrations: hero labels like Sounds of The Universe, Strutt and Soundway have documented much of this work eloquantly.
We The Ship runs expose on 2nd generation musicians; those that have cross collaborated with their exotic other here in the UK. Fusion spawns in the age old market place where we trade song and story from our respective villages. We are the marketplace, we carry the people on this journey, we the ship.
What Producers?
Musical brothers with Ana-Dub sensibilities: Bajourou & Gringo have a shared history of DIY Punk, World Jazz Improvisation and Electronics artistry.
Joshua 'Bajourou' Brandler is a musician and producer that began this journey with the Grand Union Orchestra (The UKs foremost world music ensemble), joining 1st the youth ensemble, now company director, he established REGEN with fellow GUO alumni to continue the tradition.
Marc 'Gringo' Goymour also musician and producer is an electronics specialist and songwriter who spearheaded a plethora of Garage, Grime & Punk ensembles throughout the noughties. As a club manager and DJ hosting parties when not performing at them.
Together with a wider group of friends they pioneered psychedilic rock fusion 5-10 piece, Animanz 2010 - 2020, touring with British Soul centrepiece Alice Russell and Mr Black Ark himself Lee Scratch Perry. These collaborations and early renditions of their sound harnessed the black british music in their genes. We The Ship set sail 2026.
Why Live and Remix?
Working with the worlds finest talent onstage, musicians from all corners of the globe, teaches a lot about the magic of music - the bravery required to make it your own and its power as a healing force. We seek to highlight diamonds we've discovered living next door and share their beauty live onstage.
Versions and dubs are embedded in our tradition; remixes invite alternative audiences to get on the good foot.
